Team Member Spotlight

May 22 2018 Team,

We recently had the chance to catch up with Tom Evans, Sales Manager.  Check out our interview below to better understand why he finds our industry interesting and what he would do with a super power!

Tell us your background in plastics; how did you get started in the plastics industry?

I started in the plastics industry as a journeyman mold maker for injection molding machines over 40 years ago.  For about 17 years, I owned and operated an injection molding operation.  After my initial beginnings as a mold maker and injection molder, I served as a technical service representative for a plastics resins supplier for 7 years.  Since then, I’ve been working as a sales and technical representative in this industry.

How long have you been working at JEDA?

I’ve been on the team since 2013.

What’s a fun fact about the industry?

I don’t think people realize how prevalent our work is in this industry. You can find plastics in almost everything including such products as automotive, lighting, health care, military, general consumer goods to agriculture.  In addition, many very demanding military applications incorporate plastics such as rivets for the Stealth airplane.

How can you assist Jeda’s customers with their molding challenges?

Being involved in the plastics industry for most of my career and in so many different capacities has given me the unique opportunity to provide expertise assistance on the entire process of a molding project.  If a customer needs assistance with mold design, material requirement needs, process issues or production efficiencies, the team at JEDA and I can certainly provide knowledge and expertise to get a project started as well to see the process all the way through to the finished molded product.

We at JEDA want to provide our customers with the help they need to mold a superior product at a fair price.  As an engineered resin compounder, it’s unique that we can assist in every phase of the project, and of course, our specialty is providing the resin formulations that will fit the customers' needs in terms of physical properties, mechanical properties, surface appearance, color, and any other requirements.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I always enjoy meeting new people and helping to solve problems. I am energized when we are able to dive into application engineering and find solutions.

If you were any animal, what animal would you be and why?

Definitely a bird. I’d want to be able to fly.

If you could have a super power, what super power would you have?

I think I’d want to be able to see into the future and then alter it, if necessary.
